To be accredited as a Freelance Journalist for the Utalii Africa Tourism Expo (UATE) 2025, applicants must meet a series of specific criteria and provide supporting documentation to verify their journalistic credentials and intent to cover the event professionally. The accreditation process ensures that only qualified individuals are granted access to the event and its associated activities. Below are the detailed requirements for freelance journalists seeking accreditation:
1. Proof of Journalistic Experience
- Published Work
Freelancers must submit at least three (5) samples of their published work that demonstrate their experience in the tourism, hospitality, or related sectors. These can be in the form of articles, blog posts, or video/audio reports that have been published in reputable outlets or platforms.
- Client Portfolio
If applicable, a list of recent clients or media organizations the journalist has worked with will be required. This can include online publications, magazines, newspapers, or broadcast networks.
- Social Media and Digital Presence
Journalists with a strong digital presence, such as active social media profiles (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.), blogs, or YouTube channels focused on tourism, travel, or related content, may submit links as supplementary evidence of their work.
2. Personal Identification and Contact Information
- Government-Issued ID or Passport
A copy of the journalist’s official government-issued ID or passport to verify identity.
- Freelancer Profile or Resume:
A detailed CV or résumé outlining the journalist’s career, including relevant experience, areas of expertise, and notable assignments.
- Contact Details
A valid email address and phone number that will be used for communication before and during the event.
3. Letter of Assignment
Freelancers must provide a Letter of Assignment from a recognized media outlet, publication, or news agency that has officially contracted them to cover UATE 2025. This letter must confirm:
- The freelance journalist’s role and specific responsibilities at the event.
- The outlet’s commitment to publishing or broadcasting the coverage.
- The type of content the journalist intends to produce (articles, videos, social media updates, etc.).
4. Editorial or Media Outlet Sponsorship
Freelance journalists who do not represent a particular outlet may still apply for accreditation if they can demonstrate their work will be published by a recognized, reputable platform (online, print, or broadcast).
A Sponsorship or Partnership Agreement with a media outlet willing to sponsor their coverage of the event can be submitted as an alternative to the assignment letter.
5. Accreditation Application Form
Freelancers must complete the official UATE 2025 Media Accreditation Application Form, available on the event’s website or through the official accreditation portal.
6. Portfolio of Work
Freelancers must submit a digital portfolio showcasing their best work related to travel, tourism, or hospitality. This can include links to online articles, blog posts, videos, or other relevant content that reflects their journalistic capabilities.
If the freelancer has a website, online portfolio, or personal blog, they must provide links to these as part of the application.
7. Media Ethics and Code of Conduct Agreement
Freelance journalists must acknowledge and agree to follow the Media Ethics and Code of Conduct established by UATE. This will include guidelines on fair and responsible reporting, adherence to event schedules, and respectful interactions with other participants.
They must also commit to adhering to any embargoes or restrictions on sensitive event-related information.
8. Proof of Media Equipment
Freelancers planning to capture audio, video, or photography during the event should provide a list of media equipment they will be bringing, such as cameras, microphones, drones, or other filming tools. This ensures that there are no issues with equipment use during the event.
9. Validation Requirements
Utali EventsCo Africa Limited and the Organizing Committee of Utalii Africa Tourism Expo (UATE 2025), reserves the right to request the following validations before granting accreditation: Recognised Media House, Press Card, Letter of assignment to cover UATE 2025 on official letterhead from the Editor or Bureau Chief. Freelance travel writers may be requested to provide 5 by line editorial stories covered since January 1st 2025.
